With 2010 already in full swing here at EQPA, we have much to do. In just a few weeks a full House floor vote is expected on HB745, an LGBT-inclusive Hate Crimes bill introduced by PA Rep. Josh Shapiro (D - 153). The bill passed out of the House Judiciary Committee in November of '09 with massive bipartisan support by an 18-8 vote. If this bill is to pass the full House, however, legislators need to hear from YOU! Even though President Obama signed the Matthew Shepard & James Byrd Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act at the federal level, a state-level bill is now needed to FULLY protect LGBT Pennsylvanians. With your continued activism and support we can allay the fears of many LGBT Pennsylvanians, a group that is disproportionately represented among hate crimes' victims.
